Frequently asked questions about Ledarna membership

Yes, when you are a member of Ledarna basic income protection insurance is included, insuring your monthly salary up to SEK 80,000 for 150 compensation days, should you become involuntarily unemployed. You can also choose to add additional insurance cover to protect a higher income and/or more compensation days. Read more at bliwa.se/ledarna.

If you have a notice period from another trade union, your membership of Ledarna is free of charge during the notice period from your previous trade union (maximum 3 months).

To avoid a break in the qualification period for the income protection insurance cover, you need to ensure there is no gap in the payment period from your old trade union.

Please do the following:

  1. When you have become a member of Ledarna, contact your current trade union and request termination of your membership.
  2. During the transition period, i.e. the period from becoming a member of Ledarna until your membership of your previous trade union has been terminated, you are registered as a free-of-charge member of Ledarna so that you avoid having to pay double fees during the notification period from your previous trade union (maximum 3 months).
  3. When the termination of your previous membership is complete, please contact Ledarna and inform us of the termination date.
  4. During the notice period you are normally not entitled to negotiation support concerning any ongoing issue with your employer.

No, you have to apply for membership of an unemployment insurance fund (a-kassa). If you want to belong to an unemployment insurance fund (a-kassa), you choose which one you want to belong to.

Ledarna’s unemployment insurance fund (Ledarnas a-kassa) is completely independent from Ledarna, so if you want to join their unemployment insurance fund (a-kassa), you have to contact them directly.
